I’m all about taking shortcuts when you have no time and when no else can tell. I once tried passing off Costco red velvet cake as my own. Didn’t have much luck :-). Anyway, my sister Chaviva and family visited from New Jersey this past weekend and I was under a lot of pressure to impress. Self imposed pressure of course. The downside about bragging about your cooking is that when guests show up you have a reputation to live up to. I’ve been wanting to make this Vanilla Bun Pull Apart Cake for a while but knew that I’d probably devour it all myself. It was a good call because this came out way more amazing than I’d imagined. I’m glad there were other people were share this with. I used store bought dinner roll dough but I had to sort of mush them together so that I could roll it out in one piece. I then mixed melted butter with some sugar and vanilla bean paste and spread it over the dough, rolled it, sliced it and put it in a pan. The left over filling was poured over the vanilla buns. The result is a buttery roll that tastes like it is bathed in caramel. Does it get better than this??
- 1½ lbs store bought dough
- 1¼ sticks of butter
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla bean paste
- Thaw dough according to instructions on package
- Melt butter in the microwave
- Add sugar and vanilla bean paste and mix well
- Roll out dough and spread filling over it.
- Roll up dough as you would a jelly roll
- Cut into thin slices and add to 9 inch round cake pan. Leave space in between pieces because it will rise
- Pour leftover filling over dough and let rise until doubled
- Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes at 350
- Let cool for 10 minutes and invert pan

That looks so easy and actually fun to make all those individual rolls! Yum!
I am not going to make this because I will eat it all up. Looks amazing! I can’t believe it’s that easy.
I wonder what other kinds of refrigerator dough would work? Pepperidge farm sheets? Then you wouldnt have to “mush them together”
Pepperidge Farm sheets are flakey dough. This requires bread dough. I used what I had at home but there are plenty of brands that make bigger pieces
Lisa – see if your supermarket carries a brand like Rodes.
Yum finally something unhealthy!!!! :)maybe it’s vegan!!
Hi Tova!! Its drenched in butter! Should satisfy your unhealthy cravings 🙂
